Small Ball is the story of a melancholy journeyman basketball player Michael Jordan — not that Michael Jordan — who finds himself bouncing around various obscure international leagues and becomes the star player for the Lilliput Existers, where all of his teammates are six inches tall. It’s tough to pass a regulation-size ball to a six-inch player, so the team hasn’t been doing too well, and the post-loss press conferences are getting rough. Basketball meets musical in this surreal comedy on-stage exclusively in Philadelphia for one night only.

Invitation only.

THE DUAT

A Developmental Reading
Presented by PlayPenn and Philadelphia Theatre Company

Monday, December 18, 2023 at 7pm
Suzanne Roberts Theatre
480 South Broad Street
Philadelphia, PA 19146

PRODUCTION & CREATIVE
By Roger Q. Mason
Directed by Taibi Magar

Taking its title from the mythical Egyptian afterlife, The Duat is a psychological portrait of Cornelius Johnson, a FBI counterintelligence officer, in a battle for his very soul. Using spoken word, North African drumming, and gorgeous choreography, this one-person world premiere is a poetic and virtuosic story of redemption.

Roger Q. Mason  (they/them) is an award-winning writer, performer and educator known for using history’s lens to highlight the biases that separate rather than unite us. Mason’s playwriting has been seen on Broadway, Off and Off-Off-Broadway, and Regionally. They are an honoree of the Kilroys List and a member of Page 73’s Interstate 73 Writers Group, Primary Stages Writing Cohort, and the co-founder/lead mentor of the New Visions Fellowship for Black Trans and Gender non-conforming.
