The Wolves is Postponed, and PTC looks ahead.
To the Philadelphia Theatre Company family:
By now you know that our 2019/20 Season has been abruptly shuttered, due to the coronavirus outbreak. We want you to know how deeply grateful we are to you for your generosity and for the supportive messages we’ve received over these last several weeks.
Philadelphia Theatre Company had so much to celebrate this past season–we had the privilege of producing both Adam Bock’s A Small Fire, with its stellar cast led by Bebe Neuwirth, as well as Everything is Wonderful, Chelsea Marcantel’s illumination of the best of humanity. Noah Himmelstein’s gorgeous production offered us the chance to end the season on a note of forgiveness, of reconciliation, of coming together in a way that underscores the notion of how theatre can nourish us in such times as these.
Our production of Sarah DeLappe’s triumphant play, The Wolves, will have a place in our future. We are committed to bringing all those artists to PTC as soon as it is safe, and we hope you will join us when the time comes. We are so heartened that the majority of our Wolves ticket holders donated their tickets back to the company, or showed their faith in us by saying, “just hold on to them for next year.” Even though the Suzanne Roberts Theatre is closed, you can direct any questions to audienceservices@philatheatreco.org.
We have been moved these last months, as the commitment to distancing and temporary isolation revealed a deep care and concern for one another in our city and our community. We need you now more than ever before. As the timeline determining when we can return to producing extends further and further out, organizations like ours that rely on audiences and events are suffering serious financial losses. Knowing that you’re likely looking at your own budget more closely these days, we don’t ask you for help lightly.
Any gift you can make, at whatever level is significant to you, is truly appreciated. As you look at the upcoming month, perhaps there are some expenses that have fallen by the wayside now that you’re working from home? A morning commute that’s no longer necessary or a caffeine boost that you’re now brewing yourself. If so, could you become a Sustaining Supporter and commit to a gift of $10 a month? We thank you for considering it.
This is truly uncharted territory for us as a Company and as a country, but we remain committed to our artists and our audiences. Even with a darkened marquee, we are hard at work thinking of ways that we can bring you even closer to great American theatremaking during these days of distancing. So, watch your inbox and check philatheatreco.org regularly for updates.
For now, we’re sending our very best wishes to you and yours. We promise we’ll be in touch soon.
Warmest regards,
Paige, Emily, and the Staff of Philadelphia Theatre Company
