Thank you for your interest in becoming an important part of the Philadelphia Theatre Company family. Volunteering with PTC is a fun, social, and rewarding way to give back to the arts — whether you’re coming with friends, family, or on your own. Plus, volunteers get to see our shows for free!
Why Volunteer with PTC?
Our most popular volunteer role is ushering during our production season — greeting guests, helping them find their seats, scanning tickets, supporting late seating, and making sure every patron feels welcome. You’ll need:
- A friendly, welcoming attitude.
- A few semi-casual black clothing items for your shifts.
Additional volunteer opportunities may include:
- Ushering at rental performances and community events (such as Savoy Company, BalletX, and more)
Scheduling:
Usher shifts are available on weekdays and weekends, with both matinee and evening options. Occasionally, special events may take place on a Monday.
VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
To keep things simple and organized, PTC uses the online tool SignUpGenius for scheduling.
We ask that you:
- Maintain a valid email address (we communicate primarily by email).
- Create a free SignUpGenius account to view and select shifts.
- Arrive 75 minutes before curtain time — this includes 15 minutes of prep before the lobby and bar are open to the public (1 hour before curtain).
Technology Requirements
PTC Volunteer Ushers must be comfortable with modern technology. We require ushers to register online, and we will confirm your assignment to a specific performance day and time by email. Ushers must be able to scan patron tickets accurately and in a timely manner.
We also require ushers to provide us with their phone numbers, preferably a mobile phone number, so that we may contact you in the event of a late-breaking change in the performance to which you have been assigned.
Personality Requirements
Philadelphia Theatre Company Volunteer Ushers must professionally, knowledgably, and cheerfully represent PTC to the public. Ushers must be at least 16 years of age.

This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity. You will receive a complimentary ticket for one reserved seat at each performance you usher. Exact seating location cannot be guaranteed.
