The scenic, costume, lighting and sound designers in LORT Theatres are represented by United Scenic Artists, Local USA-829 of the IATSE. PTC is a member of Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for American Theatre, and is a member of the National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT).

CAST & CREATIVE BIOS

María Gabriela González (Betsaida) was born and raised in Puerto Rico, and has already made her way into American screen and stage with appearances in Mea Culpa (Netflix) and Fantasy Island (FOX/Hulu), as well as Pride & Prejudice (Hartford Stage); Venus in Fur, Love’s Labour’s Lost (Santa Cruz Shakespeare); A Midsummer Night’s Dream, One Man, Two Guvnors (Chautauqua Theatre Company); Native Gardens, Romeo and Juliet, A Christmas Carol (Trinity Repertory Company). As a dialect coach, María worked on Spielberg’s West Side Story (2021). She holds a BS in Chemistry, Minor in Theater from the University of Puerto Rico, and MFA in Acting from Brown University/Trinity Rep. She dedicates her work to her homeland, her loved ones and all who have supported her journey. Por y para ustedes, siempre.

Sasha Merci (Josefina) is a Dominican-American comedy multi-hyphenate taking the industry by storm. Sasha has played lead roles in critically acclaimed films like Righteous Thieves and HBO/Criterion Channel’s De lo Mio. Known for her viral, hilarious takes, she has been honored as one of TV’s #YoungBlackAndFreeform stars and has also hosted shows like FUSE’s Like, Share, Dimelo and Complex’s Group Therapy. Additionally, Sasha has partnered with brands like Complex, Target, Heineken, Refinery 29, Pop Sugar, and the LA Times. Even though her last name is French, Sasha would like to contribute her success to growing up with Dominicans in the Bronx who could barely speak English.

 

Jonathan Tineo (DeeJay Jonathan) (Voiceover) started his professional career in 2006 as an Event Host & DJ in Honolulu, Hawaii while also serving in the US Army. In 2008, he produced a radio mix show and co-hosting a segment named “Latin Vibes” on KUCD. 101.9 HD1.In 2009 after completing his military service, Jonathan returned to New Jersey to DJ in Philadelphia & South Jersey Nightclubs. He quickly gained territory with an audience that appreciated his persona and unique style. In November of 2011 he joined El Zol Media in Philadelphia as an On Air Personality and DJ Mixer. During his tenure, he had the opportunity to be the opening act for many headlining artists such as Bad Bunny, Ozuna, & Pitbull just to name a few. He has also performed at large venues like the Wells Fargo Center, Hard Rock Resorts, PPL Center & Santander Arena.
In 2022, Jonathan joined iHeartmedia Philadelphia as the Afternoon Host for WUMR-FM Rumba 106.1. In September of 2023, iHeartmedia promoted Jonathan to Program Director for Rumba 106.1 while continuing his role as the Afternoon Host.

 

Marisol Rosa-Shapiro (Puppeteer/Voiceover) is a theater artist, educator, facilitator, and creator of performance-fueled experiences for people of all ages. Recent directing and performance work includes O, Tomato, MK + A Rewatch Podcast, Auntieland, Read Me A World, and The Most Important Place in the World, all original works in Philadelphia’s Cannonball Festival; Airness at Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble. Marisol is a tenured teaching artist for the New Victory Theater (NYC), and has served as a community engagement professional for Theatre Horizon, Shakespeare in Clark Park, and Obvious Agency. She is a proud volunteer performer, teacher, and board member for Clowns Without Borders USA.

Erlina Ortiz (Playwright) (she/her/ella) is a Dominican-American playwright and theatre maker from Reading, PA. Her heartfelt and humorous plays have been presented across the US and with Power Street Theatre (PST) where she is proud to be Co-Artistic Director. Highlights: ATC National Latine Playwright Award, Leeway Transformation Award, and Dramatist Guild Foundation Catalyst Fellow. Her new musical, Siluetas, was developed for the O’Neill National Musical Theatre Conference and premiered with PST in June 2024 where it was nominated for 7 Barrymore Awards. Tatyana-Marie Carlo (Director) (ella/she) Named a “Broadway 2023 Industry Woman to Watch” by Broadway Women’s Fund, Tatyana-Marie Carlo (ella/she) is a Latiné director from Miami. Her work is focused on joyful bilingual theater making, crafting experiences in spaces brimming with the full human emotional experience. She is currently the Resident Director of Trinity Repertory Company, and has collaborated with many theaters across the United States, including Intar Theatre, Hartford Stage, Dallas Theater Center, Everyman Theatre, Children’s Theater Company, WAM Theatre, and more. Caitlin Green (Choreographer) is a freelance dance artist with a background in dance/movement therapy (R-DMT). Their work has been featured in the Philly Fringe Festival (2019), Painted Bride Art Center’s Building Bridges (2020), Bodymeld’s GWYN residency (2021), Subcircle residency (2022), and Philadelphia Dance Projects DANCE UP CLOSE (2024). Caitlin has choreographed for Regothereshego (2021), Independence Charter School’s youth theater productions (2019-2024) and personal projects such as Our Embodied Impulses (2021), and her upcoming experimental dance film, Eros: Fragile as it is Free. Caitlin is a trauma-informed teaching artist with Dancing Classrooms Philly, The Village of Arts and Humanities, and a writer for thINKingDANCE.

Rodrigo Escalante (Scenic Designer) Rodrigo is originally from El Salvador and based in New York City. Haydee Zelideth (Costume Designer) is a Chicana artist and costume designer. Clothes carry on public conversations with others and share stories about who we are, who we are not, and who we wish to be. They are a means of exploring how image can open up perceptions of race, class, socioeconomic status, and more – all of which is what most interests her. She grew up on both sides of the Mexican border and these experiences inform her point of view and how she approaches her work, giving depth, dimension and color to the specificities of someone’s life.

J. Dominic Chacon (Lighting Designer) is a lighting designer and Production Manager based in Philadelphia. He has been working in Philadelphia since he arrived here in 2002. He is an Adjunct Professor at Drexel University and the Lighting Coordinator for the Lang Performing Arts Center at Swarthmore College. In Philly, he has designed for Walnut Street Theatre, Azuka, People’s Light and many more. Outside of Philly, his work has been seen at Florida Studio Theatre, Bowery Street Theatre and Long Wharf Theatre. He is dedicated to making theatre a collaboration as well as a learning experience. In addition to his theatre work, he is very passionate about his civic duties volunteering for non-profits in and around Philadelphia.

Germán Martínez (Sound Designer) is an award winning freelance Theatrical Sound Designer based in NYC/NJ. He received his degree in Sound Design from Montclair State University in 2018. As a designer, he strives to provide his services to stories that explore the topics of, but are not exclusive to the LGBTQIA experiences, immigrant and first generation stories, and BIPOC narratives. Germán believes that tech is a crucial component to amplifying storytelling, and strives to push the boundaries with how audio interacts and is used on his productions. Nakia Shalice Avila (Stage Manager) (they/she) is a black afro-latine abolitionist, dreamer, and multi-hyphenate artist and is excited to make her Philadelphia Theatre Company’s debut in its 50th season. Credits include The Salvagers, the ripple, the wave that carried me home and The Far Country (Yale Repertory Theatre); Skeleton Crew, Othello (Trinity Repertory Company); Big River (Utah Shakespeare Festival); Familiar, True West (Steppenwolf Theatre Company) Nakia holds a B.A. in Psychology from Claflin University and is in pursuit of an MFA from David Geffen School of Drama. They dedicate their work on this production to their sisters Nia, Nadia and Daleysa.

Ryan Cunningham (Dramaturg) is a queer writer/director and Emmy & Peabody award-winning producer in film, television, and theater. Directing credits: Sugar Daddy’s off-Broadway run (SoHo Playhouse), Samantha Bee presents Wits End (NYCF, SXSW), Alan Cumming’s Club Cumming Presents a Queer Comedy Extravaganza! (Showtime), Ilana Glazer: The Planet is Burning (Amazon), Expecting Amy (HBO Max), and the upcoming feature Lone Wolves. TV Producing credits include Broad City (Comedy Central), Search Party (TBS/HBO Max), Inside Amy Schumer (Comedy Central), The Last O.G. (TBS) & Ziwe (Showtime). Ryan is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design and a Trustee on RISD’s Board.

Sebastienne Mundheim (Puppetry Coach) is an interdisciplinary performance-maker and educator. She has been animating worlds through storytelling, installation, and moving objects for 30 years. Mundheim has created over 30 commissioned works, and has collaborated in the worlds of many other artists. (www.whiteboxtheatre). A few recent puppetry projects include: Pig Iron (Bartok’s Monster), Arden Theatre (BFG), Theatre Exile (Wolf Play), Ballet X (Sidd: A Hero’s Journey). She had a 20 year puppet- retrospective at Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts. Her touring show: Kea and Ark will be at Theatre Exile, December 2024.

Jess Yates (Assistant Director) Embracing the weird in the wonderful, charming in the terrifying, and queer in the classic, Jess Yates is an artist who invites audiences and collaborators to play with multidimensional perspectives in theatre and new work development. In 2024, their
directing and producing work led them to Milwaukee Repertory Theater (Little Women, A Christmas Carol, What the Constitution Means to Me), Renaissance Theaterworks (Black Bear Island), and Williamstown Theatre Festival (Producing Department). Dale A. Mott (Producer) is a partner of the Tony Award®-winning Edgewood Entertainment team, currently lead producers of La Egoísta, Sugar Daddy and Long Way Down, and co-producer of Gun & Powder. Edgewood has also co-produced for Broadway a roster of hit plays and musicals, including Appropriate (Tony), New York, New York, A Strange Loop (Tony), The Piano Lesson (Tony nominee), Thoughts of a Colored Man, and The Lifespan of a Fact. Dale is also a three-time Telly Award recipient. Before producing, he enjoyed a thirty-year non-profit development career serving in leadership roles with The Smithsonian, CARE USA, The Phillips Collection, Arena Stage, Halcyon, Penumbra Theatre Company, and the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. He is a member of the LGBTQ+ Committee of the Greater New Orleans Foundation, a trustee of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and a member of The Broadway League, The Off-Broadway League, and The Drama League. Dale is also a preliminary judge for the National High School Musical Theatre Awards, more commonly known as the Jimmy Awards, which is given annually to recognize high school students’ musical performances in the United States.

Charles D. Urstadt (Producer) is a partner of the Tony Award®-winning Edgewood Entertainment team, currently lead producers of La Egoísta, Sugar Daddy and Long Way Down, and co-producer of Gun & Powder. Edgewood has also co-produced for Broadway a roster of hit plays and musicals, including Appropriate (Tony), New York, New York, A Strange Loop (Tony), The Piano Lesson (Tony nominee), Thoughts of a Colored Man, and The Lifespan of a Fact. Charlie currently serves on the boards of Le Petit Theatre, the Preservation Resource Center, and the Ogden Museum in New Orleans and is a member of The Drama League. For members who are visually impaired or low vision. Through provided assisted listening devices, a trained audio describer fills in the visual details and action on stage while it is performed live.

Open Caption Performance
Saturday, October 19 at 2pm
For audience members who are deaf or hard of hearing, a large LED captioning screen, positioned beside the stage, scrolls text of the dialogue/lyrics in tandem with the dialogue/lyrics of the performance.

Assisted Listening Devices
Assisted listening headsets that wirelessly deliver all dialogue, music, and sound from the show at a personally adjustable volume are available for free at every PTC performance through the House Manager or concessionaire.

Public Transportation
The Suzanne Roberts Theatre is located at SEPTA Bus Stop ID# 15190 for Bus routes 4, 27, & 32 (on the southbound side of Broad Street). You can also access the theatre from the BSL at the Lombard/South Station by exiting towards Lombard. PATCO stations at 12/13th and 15/16th are approximately 0.4 miles from the theatre. SEPTA Suburban and Jefferson Regional Rail stations are approximately 1 mile from the theatre.

Parking
Parking is available at the Symphony House Garage by reserving ahead of time at https://www.iparkit.com/locations/symphony-house-public-parking-garage. Additional parking can be found across the street at 417 S Broad Street; or at the Parkway Avenue of the Arts parking garage by visiting: https://www.parkwaycorp.com/parking/garage/avenue-arts-1501-spruce/philadelphia/pa/19102. Please note: there is limited street parking available near the theatre, and is not guaranteed.

Restrooms, Elevator, Water Fountains
RESTROOMS are located on the orchestra level of the theatre and are ADA-compliant. The ELEVATOR, which may be used to reach the mezzanine level,  is located to the left of the concession stand. WATER FOUNTAINS are located outside the restrooms.

GREEN STREET RESCUE & LE CAT CAFE

Green Street Rescue(GSR) is a non-profit (501c3) located in Philadelphia. We are focused on rescuing stray and homeless cats and practicing TNRM** (Trap, Neuter, Return, Manage) for the feral cats in the city. Our mission also includes finding foster homes and eventual adoptions for the friendly rescues. GSR provides education, information, and services which assist in trapping, rescue, fostering, and the adoption of the cats.

Philly Children’s Theatre was created to provide pay-what-you-can, live, family-friendly theatre for children of all ages. Adult performers travel to various neighborhoods and organizations throughout Philadelphia in order to increase access to the arts.

THE WOMEN’S COALITION FOR EMPOWERMENT, INC

Founded in 2010 by BIPOC women artists and art enthusiasts, our mission is to enhance financial support, creative workforce opportunities, and assistance for emerging artists, musicians, and performers facing financial challenges.

Since its inception, the WCE has cultivated numerous programs that promote self-sufficiency, artistic expression, and opportunities for personal and professional creative growth. The WCE is a multi-year recipient of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Preserving Diverse Cultures grant orchestrating a variety of multi-themed concerts, art project collaborations, and art-centered workshops, all aimed at enhancing creative engagement with the public.

We recognize and acknowledge that the Suzanne Roberts Theatre stands on the Indigenous territory known as “Lenapehoking,” the traditional homelands of the Lenape, also called Lenni-Lenape or Delaware Indians. These are the people who, during the 1680s, negotiated with William Penn to facilitate the founding of the colony of Pennsylvania. The Lenape diaspora includes five federally recognized nations in Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Ontario. Pennsylvania is one of only a few Eastern states that does not recognize any native tribes.

Tyler Dobrowsky (Co-Artistic Director) previously worked at Trinity Rep as their Associate Artistic Director, and while there he commissioned a number of writers, such as George Brant, Jackie Sibblies Drury, Miranda Rose Hall, James Ijames, Whitney White, and Lauren Yee, co-founded YASI, Trinity’s summer camp for young people, and, working with Rhode Island Latino Arts, developed a free, bilingual, mobile theater program, Teatro en el Verano. Favorite directing credits include: A  Midsummer Night’s Dream, Little Shop of Horrors, Into The Breeches at Trinity, Macbeth in Stride at A.R.T.; The Big Meal and Morality Play at the Gamm; Capsule for The Public. He has taught at BU, Brown, NYU, Rhode Island College, and a number of other universities.

Taibi Magar (Co-Artistic Director) is a graduate of the Brown MFA program. NY credits include: Help (The Shed), Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 (Signature Theatre, Lortel-winning) Capsule by Whitney White and Peter Mark Kendall (The Public Theater) Blue Ridge starring Marin Ireland and The Great Leap starring BD Wong (Atlantic Theater); Is God Is (Soho Rep, 2018 Obie Award;) and Underground Railroad Game (Ars Nova). She premiered the new musicals Macbeth In Stride and We Live In Cairo at A.R.T.. She is developing the commercial theatrical adaptation of Wonder by Jill Furman (book by Bess Wohl, music and lyrics by A Great Big World). Regional: CTG, Woolly Mammoth, Alley Theatre, The Guthrie, and Seattle Rep, among others. International: Hamburg Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Malthouse Theatre (Melbourne), and Soho Theatre (London). She received an Obie Award in 2018 and the SDC Breakout Award in 2019. Taibi has taught at University of the Arts, Juilliard, NYU and Brown.

Margo Moskowitz (Managing Director) joined the Philadelphia Theatre Company in 2018 as the General Manager and in 2024, assumed the role of Managing Director. During her time at the Philadelphia Theatre Company, she streamlined many of the financial and human resources processes, while also overseeing artist contracting, company management, and union relationships. Prior to Philadelphia, she spent eight years at Atlanta’s Tony Award-winning Alliance Theatre, where she worked on over 75 productions – many of them world premieres (her favorite) and commercially enhanced productions. In Atlanta, Margo was a panelist for the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs and the C4 Ignite Arts program. She graduated from the College of Charleston with a B.A. in arts management and a minor in theatre. Margo is married to Ben Tilley and they are the proud parents of Clark.
